Ministerial visit to Eggisried

On 26 September the State Minister for Science and the Arts Markus Blume, together with Klaus Holetschek, leader of the CSU parliamentary group in the Bavarian State Parliament and former State Minister, visited the Erich-Schickling-Stiftung. After a short guided tour of the house chapel with its stained-glass windows, the events hall and the Foundation's exhibition rooms, there was still time for an exchange of ideas. The current funded project "Auch der Gesang kaum darf es enthüllen" is being supported by the Kulturfond Bayern with a grant of around €30,000. The project is devoted to the connections with music in the work of the artist Erich Schickling, through events, guided tours and a special exhibition.
Erich Schickling composed direct and also hidden allusions to music and to figures making music into a great many of his pictures. They can often be recognised by the inclusion of the instrument, as with King David with the harp or Orpheus with the lyre. Sometimes they are characters that spring from works of music history or of poetry, such as Papageno from Mozart's Magic Flute or Death in Franz Schubert's "Death and the Maiden". The artist's spiritual and religious affinity with the music of Johann Sebastian Bach or with the songs and symphonies of Gustav Mahler or Brahms is documented autobiographically.
By means of screens and QR codes, the special exhibition conveys the background and the connections between music and picture in videos and audio. The opening is planned for 11 April.
