Selection of works
The work and activity of the artist Erich Schickling spans the fields of free painting, of commissioned works in public and sacred spaces such as glass windows or mosaics, as well as three-dimensional design in architecture and sculpture at Eggisried, the centre of his life. His figurative depictions are devoted above all to biblical and mythological themes and to the world of poetry. Not only in the Christian message but also in his landscape paintings, his wonder at divine creation can be felt.
Pictures
Reverse glass painting occupies a large place in Schickling's work, alongside tempera paintings and other techniques. When he painted “behind the glass”, he always had “the other side” in view, both of the glass and of a reality behind the visible.
Public Works
In over 60 sacred spaces Erich Schickling has created stained-glass windows, altarpieces and Stations of the Cross cycles. For schools, kindergartens, hospitals and banks, murals, ceramics or stained-glass windows have been made.
Entwürfe
For his public and sacred commissions, Schickling produced detailed coloured designs on paper in smaller formats, and for stained glass windows also the full-size cartoons for execution in the glass workshops.
Architecture
As displaced people, the ancestors came to the Günz and, with a small wooden house, established the original nucleus of today's grounds. From 1952 to 2010 the buildings on this side and the far side of the Günzbrücke came into being step by step. Not only in his designs, but with his own hands and his own means, Erich Schickling built and planted a landscape of indoor and outdoor spaces with a Mediterranean feel.
