Glass windows
The design for the 1956 ideas competition for glass windows at the Elisabeth-Kirche Marburg became his entry into the design of glass windows, including extensive cycles in newly built or in historic church interiors. His last commission, in 2002, was the Resurrection windows for Pondorf.
Mural
Erich Schickling's interior designs were valued for their life-affirming or imaginative character. With "art in architecture", it was important to him to convey to children or adults a perspective that goes beyond the everyday.

Mosaic
Mosaic technique plays an essential role in the altarpieces and altar crosses. Most often used are coloured mosaic tesserae, slate, gilded glass pieces, silvering and reverse glass elements with lead cames.
