"O star and flower, spirit and raiment,
Love, sorrow, time and eternity!"
So ends the poem "After Great Sorrow" by the Romantic poet Clemens Brentano, which the speaker has set above the talk.
The pictorial theme "Death and the Maiden" of the special exhibition is the starting point and the occasion for the talk on the pictorial tradition of the dance of death. The art historian Dr. Gertrud Roth-Bojadzhiev (Augsburg) traces a society's engagement with death, as it was depicted in entire cycles from the Middle Ages through to the modern era.
The talk can be attended following the Sunday guided tour (15.00) or independently of it at 16.30.
