Mother's Day Matinee

The pianist Magdalena Wolfarth belongs to the young generation of musicians who are opening up new paths with ideas of their own. As a song pianist working together with singers, she stands out for her imaginative programming, in which she excitingly threads together the well known as well as the rare and the experimental from more recent musical literature and combines it with other artistic elements. With her vocal ensemble she leads through English, French and German worlds and times of childhood, brilliantly realised by composers of the 19th and 20th centuries. Magdalena Wolfarth studied piano in Karlsruhe and additionally went on to a master's degree in the song class. She holds scholarships from the Deutscher Musikrat, the Funk-Stiftung and the Brahmsgesellschaft Baden-Baden. She has also been supported by the association YEHUDI MENUHIN Live Music Now Oberrhein e.V. Alongside her piano studies with a master's degree, she studied school music for teaching and German studies at KIT Karlsruhe.

The soprano Julia Obert appeared in the past three seasons in children's opera productions at the Oper Frankfurt, among others as Susanna in „Figaros Hochzeit“ and Donna Anna in "Don Giovanni". In 2019 she was a soloist in Gluck's "Orphée et Eurydice" at the Festspielhaus Baden. In September 2021 she reached the final rounds of the ARD competition in Munich as one of 20 international singers.

The mezzo-soprano Carlotta Lipski is studying in the master's programme in concert and opera singing at the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe. She holds scholarships from Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Oberrhein e.V. as well as from the Richard Wagner Verband Trier-Luxemburg. After small engagements at the Staatstheater Karlsruhe, Carlotta made her debut last November at the Theater Heidelberg.

The tenor Shichao Cheng comes from Zhangpu in the south of China. Since 2015 he has been studying at the Hochschule für Musik in Karlsruhe, first in the MA programme in singing, then in the song class. He was a prizewinner at the Wolfgang Rihm Competition in 2018 and likewise holds a scholarship from Live Music Now. Since 2020 he has been studying opera singing in the soloist class at the Institut für Musiktheater Karlsruhe.
