Expressive Forms – Concert with the guitarist Denys Melnykov

After his studies in Ukraine and distinguished MA degrees as a concert guitarist and musicologist, Denys Melnykov continues his training in the renowned guitar class of Prof. Tilman Hoppstock at the Akademie für Tonkunst Darmstadt. Since then he has been conquering the concert platforms as a soloist, not only through his exceptional virtuosity on the instrument, but also giving the audience exciting insights into the historical and contemporary world of guitar music.

Denys Melnykov was born in 1984 in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro into a family of artists. At the age of 7 Denys shows a great interest in music of the most varied styles, takes his first lessons on the classical and the jazz guitar and decides, already at the age of 13, to make music his profession.

1997 - 2002 Denys Melnykov studies classical guitar and conducting at the M.I.Glinka – Musikfachschule and takes part in many international festivals. In 2007 he completes his master's studies in Ukraine as a performing artist and as a musicologist with distinction.

2008 to 2013 Denys continues his training at the Akademie für Tonkunst Darmstadt in the highly renowned guitar class of Prof. Tilman Hoppstock. Increasing concert appearances and competition successes gradually earn him international recognition. Like his teacher and mentor Hoppstock, he shapes his concerts impressively not only through his exceptional virtuosity on the instrument, but also gives exciting insights into the historical and contemporary world of guitar music.
