About the musicians

Born in Ukraine, raised in Germany, Andrej Jussow received international recognition as a pianist at an early age. For more than a decade he was musically shaped and supported by Sontraud Speidel, professor at the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe. Andrej Jussow has given concerts in many countries of Europe, in the USA, Russia and Japan. He has won numerous international competitions and is a holder of the European Culture Prize. For more than ten years he has been solo pianist at the Württembergische Staatstheater in Stuttgart and appears regularly with the Staatsorchester Stuttgart. His extensive solo and chamber music repertoire comprises over 30 piano concertos, among them all the piano concertos by Beethoven, Chopin and Rachmaninoff. Andrej Jussow began his teaching career while still a student and, after his concert examination, became a lecturer at the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe.

“A concert like a crossing over, a wandering through the world. Art can achieve no more.” wrote Markus Noichl in 2020 in the Memminger Zeitung about Jussow's interpretation of Beethoven's last piano sonata op.111

Alex Jussow was born in Kyiv/ Ukraine and studied with Prof. Josef Rissin at the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe and with Prof. Axel Gerhardt at the Universität der Künste Berlin. He is a prizewinner of the „Jugend Musiziert“ competition, including several 1st prizes with top marks at national level in the solo violin category, as well as special prizes of the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben. As a sought-after chamber musician he has appeared at important festivals such as the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the Rheingau Musik Festival, the Musikfest of the Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart, the Mozartfest Würzburg and PODIUM Esslingen. He has also given concerts on important stages such as the Kammermusiksaal of the Berliner Philharmonie and the Konzerthaus Berlin. Alex Jussow gained orchestral experience as a long-standing member of the Landesjugendorchester Baden-Württemberg and of the Bundesjugendorchester. In 2015 he became a permanent member of the Staatsorchester Stuttgart. He received important musical impulses from, among others, Günter Pichler (Alban Berg Quartett), Eberhard Feltz, Tabea Zimmermann and the Artemis Quartett. Radio and television recordings for NDR, SWR, WDR and Deutschlandradio document his artistic career. Since 2018 Alex Jussow has been first violinist of the Malion Quartett.
