Davidsbündler yesterday and today

Maria Stange, harp

Markus Stange, piano

The modern grand piano, too, resembles the harp in its shape. In biblical times the harp goes back to King David. To it he entrusted his psalms; through his music he checked the rage of King Saul and defeated the Philistines. No wonder the composer Robert Schumann chose him as the figurehead in the struggle against the musical Philistines of his own day: in his Davidsbündler-Tänze op. 6 he entrusts to the piano the figures of a poetic Davidsbund, who stand for the artistic new departure in the spirit of Romanticism.

The siblings Maria and Markus Stange - professors at the music academies in Stuttgart and Karlsruhe - set the contemporary work "Piano Phase" by Steve Reich, in a harp/piano duo, against their solo pieces. Delicate, pulsing textures of sound carry you off into a feeling of infinity and expanse.

Admission 20 €, for members of the Circle of Friends 15 €
